Sold Out Pumpkin - Cinderella
Ironspring Orchard & Farm — CROSSVILLE, AL$8.00 / medium
Sold OutThe Cinderella pumpkin, also known as Rouge Vif d'Etampes, is a classic French heirloom winter squash famous for its bright, vivid red-orange color and flattened, deeply ribbed shape that resembles a cheese wheel or a storybook carriage. Originating in the early 1800s in Étampes, France, it was a staple at Parisian markets (like Les Halles) in the 1880s and was introduced to the U.S. by W. Atlee Burpee in 1883. It is widely believed to have inspired the pumpkin coach in the traditional French Cinderella fairy tale.Known traditionally as a standard for French soup stocks and gratins, its mildly sweet, orange flesh also works well in pies, roasting, and purées.
